Emily Sandstrom says
One priority, and it’s an old continuing one: to reduce the time of producing my blog. It is 2500 words a day of fresh content, and that isn’t going to change. It takes 1/3 the time it used to when I first ramped up to the present format. No one else can write this. It’s not designed for one person to read all of it; it’s an encyclopedia that grows.
I have a new system of, instead of starting fresh each day, to access the archives as a shortcut, rephrase the sentences there. Not efficient at that yet, but will be.
I do this because I love it. It’s my hobby. I retired from being the number one skilled technical court reporter, a profession I engaged in for 25 years. After that, anything else is easy and fun.
James Schramko says
leveraging your passion is awesome !
Emily Sandstrom says
unceasingly awesome, yes.
Michael Ippersiel says
Hi James – there’s so many things to take action on in this training that it’s hard to narrow it down to just one. But if I’m going to narrow it down to one category that I’m going to focus on right away, it’s taking better care of myself by 1) walking daily at least for 20 minutes 2) getting at least 7 hours sleep (I often get less) at least 5 days a week. Thanks for all the great content you put out and share with us.
James Schramko says
That’s going to be a lifetime win!
MDillon71 says
Did you pull off that bottom-turn?
James Schramko says
First day out on that board – I think I missed that one.
MDillon71 says
I commit to investing an hour on myself in the morning incl. exercise, reading, meditation. I only want to do 3 things for each project I’m working on and these 3 things are the highest-leverage actions (80/20). Only work on projects that I can scale i.e. grow revenue whilst my involvement remains the same.
Ed Auzenbergs says
James, More excellent content from the James the Sensei… Thank You!
I commit to investing time in my Physical Fitness, which I did consistently from age 15 to 47. Then, for the past 2 years I told myself that I need to temporarily reallocate my time to getting my eCommerce business off the ground while I still work a six-figure full time job. Two months become two years very quickly, and I’m feeling the ill effects.
It’s time to stop kidding myself and return to caring for myself. It’s a long journey ahead, and we all need the energy.
Besides that, I commit to Consistent Content Creation & Curation. Taking 3 or 4 days off makes it harder to regain momentum… like the flywheel effect teaches us. Smartphones make it possible to create useful content even when we’re having a busy day on the road.
Have a great week, and thanks again! By the way, your recent post with Chris Ducker teaching us to Hire for the Role was very helpful. Cheers!
James Schramko says
Thank you Ed that is good to hear you are going to look after yourself. Nice!
Wendy Gardner says
Funny I did that too – glued my rear to the chair to work on the website changeover, thought I could do it in under a month.. ha ha.. several months later burnout and several kilos of wadding just from the sitting! So making sure I exercise(move more) every day is now a priority not a guilty luxury.
James Schramko says
Move every day and you will live longer!
Martyna Bizdra says
Thank you James, this is a good lesson.
My most important goal for the next week will be : to find a way to work less, to have the time for the things I love and that really help me grow.
Today I have removed unnecessary clothes, books, magazines, etc
Two days ago I decided to buy books in kindle format instead of the physical books.
I have a question to you:
You are a creative person, how do you manage to focus on one project, when there are so many incredible ideas that are real, and that can do good on multiple levels.
Thanks, Martyna
James Schramko says
Hi Martyna, Not all opportunities are equal (80:20). I have scoring system and I focus on the profit formula (part 3 of this training).
Tanya Kersey says
Excellent training. Thank you James.
My #1 priority is getting my first marketing funnel by delivering my tripwire and 1-click upsell to the guy who’s building my funnel.
I’ve wasted so much time chasing all kinds of shiny new objects, having no focus on completion, and trying all kinds of different ways to make money.
I finally realized I’ve been totally wasting my time as I had no new signups to my mailing list and I wasn’t growing my business.
I finally buckled down and hired someone to put my funnel together.
He’s actually doing the technical work to connect and automate everything so it works. He’s also going to place FB ads to initialize the funnel. And, I have a 12 part SOS email series being written.
So I have no excuses.
The only thing I have to do is to deliver the products – the tripwire and upsell. And that’s my #1 priority.
James Schramko says
It sounds like you have a solid plan in place ! Good luck Tanya. If your market wants the solutions you offer you should do well.
Wendy Gardner says
Unsubscribing from some newsletters now.
James Schramko says
excellent Wendy!
Wendy Gardner says
.. and this morning an uncluttered inbox.. a relief. Next item – feng shui my work area (decluttering).
James Schramko says
Well done Wendy. I highly recommend ‘ The Magic Of Tidying Up”
sebi 20 says
James You are awesome.
Thank you dude !
Quick Questions:
You mentioned that 100$ per hour as an employee is great, but not as an Entrepreneur. As an Entrepreneur, in the first 2 years, what will be a normal / good/ great / $ per hour I am curious (in your perspective)
For inbox filtering and also unsubscribing I highly recommend for you and this community: https://unroll.me
Rescue Time is a great app indeed, I used in the past also time doctor and action machine .
From my perspective I think that the Main Benefits / attractive points of a Biz are these ones:
———————————————————————————————————————
Absence of the Owner
Recurring subscriptions
Scalable Business
Low work requirements
Low cost base
High growth niche
Evergreen Niche :)
Denise Condon says
I am setting a framework and have already unsubscribed from time-draining/focus distracting emails. Hard-drive is next – I did the wardrobe and drawers yesterday – bagged and binned in the same day so there was no going back. About the sign up for Superfastbusiness and make this membership work for me. Have the March Event as an action item on my Whiteboard – increasing my August Sales targets to pay for the event
James Schramko says
Action stations!!! Well done Denise. Work it and you will reap the dividends. Thank you for sharing
Donna says
James, this first video has inspired me to take action and confirms that I’ve found the path. After listening I signed up for Roboform. And I’ve removed all but important push-notifications. Next I’ll look into the Rescue Time solution to challenge myself to tidy-up my PC/online habits even more. And Schedule Once, to follow your tip on how to screen before giving access to my calendar.
Other things too: I recently acquired a new laptop that can handle Dragon Pro, so my output is more effective. I used the opportunity to put automatic systems in place to keep the laptop and phone clean, remove unused apps after a specified period, and other things that I’ve set up once and forget. I also put both an external hard drive and cloud-based system into place for storing, backing and syncing files. So I no longer keep files on my laptop which, aside from improving performance does, as you say, enhance my own clarity and focus.
I’ve pretty much unhooked from social media thanks to hearing you talk about this on a couple podcasts a while back. And I long ago adopted your philosophy of ‘owning the race horse.’ Until then, I’d been using it ‘just to check in’ or ‘post a line’, but until I realistically observed my true behavior and challenged it, these social ‘tools’ had just been a slow leak of time and energy increments that added up to an invisible loss of empowerment. Now I go in once or twice a week for a fast post, a few replies to specific questions, then ‘ride out of Dodge’ without so much as a look over my shoulder.
I too use an Ethernet connection at home; I didn’t realize until I read your “tools we use” page that it’s a more stable and high-speed connection. My choice for still using it (aside from being a respectful nod to and nostalgic remnant of old-school paranoia), is the freedom from the Internet. I unplug and go do my creative work outside under my patio umbrella while enjoying birdsong, sunshine and fresh air. I do my best work after my morning ‘me-time’ spent gazing the ocean (and stopping to check in with a few good Village folks during my walk back from the beach), and before my scheduled events and sessions.
I don’t (yet) have an assistant; for now my smart phone does amazing things to filter and remind me of the necessary. Yet my goal is to model your program of building a team and cutting my hours down further.
Fortunately I’d already chucked the over-work syndrome as soon as I left the corporate world nine years ago. That was not long before I found you online with your Cheat Sheet bonus which guided me to build my first site.
I’ve been checking in with you since, and now that I’m enjoying this wonderful profit-leverage program you’ve graced us with, I’m moved to apply to join your community to learn and apply more specifics, and to share in the joy of WHY we embrace a path of self-governance. My goal for being in your community would be to refine and up-level this amazing lifestyle-business choice, and to engage with it at higher levels.
Thanks again, James, and everyone who have also done the homework and shared about it here – it’s encouraged me to do the same!
James Schramko says
Donna this is awesome!!! Well done
Alexander Heyne says
This is great James, thanks for sharing.
Do you have any articles on the daily email process/how you sell/how to sell?
I’ve got a suite of products, just figuring out how to introduce my audience to all of them constantly and provide value while making more sales.
-Alex
James Schramko says
Yes I have an inbox relief to explain my inbox technique. I also have sales training inside my community jamesschramko.com/membership
RichardRColeman says
Thank you James,
And thanks to a friend who suggested take a look at your stuff and tune into your podcasts – very timely, frankly, best move ever. I’ve actually found it hard to move forward, find better clients, earn more of late, which in turn puts you under pressure. After watching your video, I accept that “I” have to be ok to do that.
My priority for this week is to start looking after me. Moving and eating/drinking (water) well like I use to. Getting a new pillow and getting up when I natural wake. Most of all, stop beating myself up and accepting that I am enough.
I’m locking down my routine which will include doing things I love to do. For me that’s music. Talk about timing – now we’re recording an album in May – cannot wait!!
Lastly, I will start tracking my time.
Thanks again.
James Schramko says
Fantastic Richard !
Jason Drwal says
Great course, full of business and life advice. I am taking away two things: work smarter not harder and fit business to your life not life to your business. I read a book called pressed for time and one of the interesting findings in the book is that we didn’t always idolize people who work hard. Today, we seem to praise people for hard work and most people wear it as a badge of honor. About a 100 years ago, the most influential and wealthy people in society were the ones who worked the least. They were called the leisure class and this is in contrast to the working class. In the US, talking about how much time you have is almost a sin and this is double true in the entrepreneurial world.
I am guilty of worshiping hard work for hard work’s sake.
I love the idea that we don’t have to let our business run our lives to be successful. My goal is to track how much time I spend building my online business. I don’t do this now. My business is just starting and I don’t make a profit, so I can’t measure an effective hourly rate, but I’m building an email list. Maybe I could look at how much time certain activities take and how many subscribers they create. Then I could focus on those activities more.
James Schramko says
Great observations Jason and that would be a good place to start. I recommend on focusing on finding your ‘offer that converts’ then that will fund your next moves. We did a challenge in January 2016 inside SuperFastBusiness where members helped each other develop an offer that converts. I helped one member find a $5000 offer that he can make where he has sold it already and is onto the next one.
Chris Von Wilpert says
My priority: Install RescueTime to start tracking how much time I actually spend on the computer so I can benchmark my effective hourly rate this month, then work to get it higher every month.
My question: Once you have your ideal daily routine planned out, how do you make sure you stick to your routine every day (ie: go to bed at the same time, wake up at the same time, keep your high level activity focused without getting distracted on other things/emergencies that come up in your email, etc)?
James Schramko says
Chris you need to expect emergencies to happen that’s why you plan buffer time so that you can deal with them when they come. Stay out of your inbox and filter so that you only receive important emails. Teach this inside my superfast membership called inbox relief. You can set an alarm at night to remind you to switch off your device and go to bed.
Natalie Brown says
All of these need either a major or minor tune up but the one I really need to make a priority is to move. I have let that go for too long. Now the weather is cooling down and humidity has dropped, I have no excuses to get out and enjoy tropical north queensland! So my priority is to go to the beach at least 4 days a week for a walk. I also want to learn how to do the tai chi 24 form completely from memory so I will start doing that at the beach or in the back yard every day.
James Schramko says
Perfect !
Nick Ritchey says
Priority: unsubscribe from all but the best mailing lists.
Within 5 minutes of this video I went to my unroll.me account (113 subscriptions) and got it down to 4 including yours, my own, and 2 lists I LOVE!
Thanks!
p.s. Silver Circle Member J. Duffy referred me to your site — I’m looking forward to the members area!
Marina says
It’s nice to know I’m on the right track. The past few months as I’ve been getting ready to launch my own business products, I’ve been decluttering and streamlining things. There’s still a way to go, but it’s a gentle process.
Now I’ll be setting some more deadlines (talks and programs are booked in YAY) so it’s time to tighten up my routines and framework.
James Schramko says
Very good Marina! You are on your way.
Krsnendu Knight says
What are my 80:20 tasks? marketing my services, getting the services fulfilled (delegation and completion have been challenges for me), sending invoices so I get paid.
Out of them what is my 64:4 task? setting up systems and delegating so the services are fulfilled. That will free up my time to be more strategic and scale.
Time to move on to part 2 for guidance in how to build a team and delegate effectively.
James Schramko says
Spot on! Nailed it
David MacElwain says
Cleaning up, Office, Closet, Car, Computer, Letting go of all the not needed crap. With love :)
Angus Giorgi says
Walk my eight year old to School along the Creek in time so we have time to look at the fish on the pier.
Andrew Keipert says
Highest priority is to create some test pages around my business idea to see if there is any interest.
From there I will de-clutter and filter the noise allowing room for a focused, designed routine.
James, I have been on mission for the past few years to take back my life. I have been open to learning about everything from meditation, self improvement, business and investing etc…
I have decided business is the way forward for me.
I have been drilling into what’s important to me and creating some clear values and principals to operate by, It’s great how you seem to do the same.
I look forward to checking out your other material and learning more. Cheers mate.
James Schramko says
That is great news Andrew!
Sean Wroe says
Highest Priority is to dedicate myself to one business and get rid of the other businesses that take my focus away from the other one.
James Schramko says
Perfect!
Tommy Sikes says
James, terrific stuff. I just binged on your’s and Taki’s podcast. Brilliant. Complete mind blowing epiphany on how to restructure my business and live more.
Please keep sharing this amazing info. It’s making a huge difference in our lives.
James Schramko says
Thanks Tommy. I’ll be continuing my content and also releasing a book or two ;)
Vince Spatolisano says
“If someone is going to eat your lunch it might as well be you” brilliant
I listen to a number of podcasts where I found James interviewed for Copy Chief last week, life changed forever. The great presenters control tone and speed like a soccer players controls a midfield this is clear when listening to James Schramko. His not only the best presenters in Australian a heavy weight among the US business people I follow regarding business and marketing.
No brainier this is the Bart Cummings of the business world, if you don’t listen you need to. I have no questions for James you have given me enough in the short time I have been following Super Fast Business making.
All the best for 2017
James Schramko says
Thank you Vince ! Terribly kind words. I appreciate them.
Joseph Boyden says
Loved this James! Can’t wait to watch Part 2. I like your down to earth approach too.
Learning to focus and not multi-task is key. Something I need to work on for sure. As well as routines… I am committing to a morning routine that sets me up for the day with a positive mindset.
James Schramko says
Routines will set you free!
Will Chou says
Thanks Shramko
James Schramko says
My pleasure !
Branko Rakic says
Thank You. I will clean up my inbox first.
James Schramko says
Excellent start
ana says
Thanks for all the refreshing info. My priority this week is certainly clean up, organize and refresh. This week I will Focus on my Focus and nothing else.
James Schramko says
That sounds like a great week!
Jared Vogels says
Thanks James, my first task is to establish a routine that works for me!
CJ says
De-clutter. Starting with the subscriptions and continuing to everything that clutters up my life.
Setting an alarm on the iPhone to remind me to go to sleep. I need at least 7 hours sleep.
James Schramko says
Excellent CJ!
CJ says
I’ve been sleeping 7 – 8 hours per night. I also started taking Sundays off.
My life has been transformed. I have more energy than I need.
My new goal is to get things done. I need some focus.
James Schramko says
that is great progress CJ!
Tony The Chevy Guy says
I’m going to commit to establishing a consistent routine of daily action steps that are productive and achieve results. By tracking and monitoring my actions I will be able to rank the results on level of performance outcome. On a personal level, I’m making it a priority to engage in productive activities that develop my mental and physical well-being. I’ve been spending entirely too much time being nonproductive.
James Schramko says
Thank you Tony! Well done.
Lynette Lim says
PURGE. Loads of stuff to clear from my laptop and office. Clearing out documents from my old business of 12 years for the past couple of months. Had 7 bin bags worth of paperwork shredded for recycling. Now it’s the laptop. And totally agree about purging those subscriptions… Thank you for all the great tips James.
James Schramko says
Excellent!!
Craig Lee says
Thanks for the content James. I am going focus on one task this week and that one task is to declutter my life (starting with my inbox) – great tips!
James Schramko says
Excellent Craig!
This is a really great place to start.
Madeleine says
Creating a solid marketing routine that I do weekly with clear deadlines.
James Schramko says
Routine will help you a lot!
shotokankarateinfo says
That was excellent training James thank you. The one thing I’m going to do is start surfing, but before that I have to move closer to the sea, Oh! thats 2 things :)
Seriously though, I aim to produce one good tutorial video each week, starting today.
Looking forward to part 2
James Schramko says
That sounds like a great action item! Have fun with your videos
Planti Mani says
Biggest thing is to focus, I tend to spend 5 mins on something and then something new catches my eye and I’m off looking at that. FOCUS on one thing, get it done, move on to the next. Haven’t got any internet business in mind yet, just know I have to move away from my physical do it once and only sell it once business, I running out of energy.
James Schramko says
Focus on one thing is very good!
Ronan Quinn says
It’s Purge / De-Clutter for me. Books, wires, screens, bags, hi-vis cones, …….all over the floor.
Post its, multiple notebooks……………….(most recent when i started this lesson :) ) , batteries, hard drives, receipts, kids artwork ( thats ok to stay :) ) . About 40 pens, maybe 3 work !!
You get the picture, and thats just my OFFICE !!!
I shudder to think what’s in the wardrobes in the office and then i’ll tackle the rest of the house.
God, this had been nagging my mind for over a year. I guess i’m a brutal action taker :) , time to chnage that!!!
James Schramko says
YES!!!!!! well done Ronan
Dan Brady says
Awesome training, here. My #1 thing to do starting this afternoon is going to have to be focus – I’ve got a clear to-do list that’s taking me far too long to accomplish because I get side-tracked too easily. And yeah – the email habit needs to be trimmed, but that’ll get looked at after I’ve got my current to-do list emptied.
James Schramko says
Great post Dan. Probably some of the things on the ToDo list could just be deleted. Thats real freedom!
Dan Brady says
You’re right – some of the stuff on my to-do list were things that don’t ever need to be done. There were more in the clump that I moved to my do-later list – things I’ll want to do, but will wait until I get the more important and urgent stuff done.
James Schramko says
I have a ‘later’ list that I add them to which means ‘never’ lol
Dan Brady says
I dunno – about a year ago, I added “learn more about Direct Response copywriting” to my do-later list – and falling down *that* rabbit hole is one of those things I’m glad I found time for.
The rest of this mourning’s email just landed on ‘do-later’ – but I know that there’s stuff in there that I don’t wanna move to ‘never’. Part 3 of this series is in there somewhere, too – but finishing the product sales page gets done first.
James Schramko says
Learning about copy is ‘high impact’ so well worth it!
Darrin Howlett says
Further reduce the noise by fine tuning the frequency of prioritization, focusing only on the key things I need to do to achieve immediate goals, inevitably reaching long…
James Schramko says
Excellent!
Darrin Howlett says
Thank you James… appreciating you and your programs perspective. Stay safe on the waves and may you surf on forever.
James Schramko says
That’s the plan yes!!
Steven Barchetti says
Purge…..
Still unsubscribing from people’s list
Reverse funnel hacking is over! 😜
Wow, I haven’t used the comment tool for many years.
It’s neat to go back and read my comments from 5 or 6 years ago
Love what you have built James
I appreciate following your lead
James Schramko says
Thank you Steven!!
Jacqui says
Hi James, thank you for the tips. My number one thing to focus on today is to work on my business plan. I have given myself a deadline and working towards that deadline and putting all other things aside
James Schramko says
Excellent, Make sure your business plan fits on one page. Keep it very simple
EME BASSEY says
Inbox declutter. I had started it before but this time I am being brutal and letting go of the emotional attachments to things I will never “get back to”
James Schramko says
awesome! Reset for ever
Dwi Apriani says
Very enlightening. I already started decluttering my desk and workspace. And you are right it sucked much energy out of me just looking at those items and mess. And as for business my focus right now is to generate more leads to my recurring service. So for the next 7days, I’ll be focusing on one thing only i.e. generating warm leads from facebook groups and talk to 5 people a day. Thank you for the insight, James.
James Schramko says
My pleasure Dwi!
soundzzz says
I need to focus on the most important 1 thing for the next week. I find that I have way too many business opportunities floating around in my head and am not accomplishing as much as I would like
James Schramko says
Yes score them!
I made some training on this:
https://jamesschramko.com/business/545-which-product-or-service-should-you-focus-on/
Jon Scheele says
Thanks James. I found you through your interview on Pat Flynn’s podcast.
I like the clarity of: “creators are the ones who make money, consumers are the ones who spend money”.
My priority is to create something each day, which right now is to finish building my online course.
James Schramko says
exactly!
I still create something every day. Video, Audio or content for my members in the form of answers to their questions. Then I earn my Netflix /Surfing consumption :)
Adrianne Jerrett says
My priority is to finish issue 2 of my magazine in the next two weeks and then create a framework and routibe for the magazine and blog posts so that I get work done in a timely fashion and have time to enjoy the rest of my day. Oh unsubscribe from more email lists
James Schramko says
Excellent Adrianne!
Jim Brunjes says
James, thank you! I’m going to start building an email list. I’m at zero – and I’d like to take it to 1,000 subscribers.
James Schramko says
Excellent Jim, Even 100 would be good. 1000 subscribers is enough to generate $100k if you focus on buyers.
Johna says
I’m going to clean up my work space.
Marissa says
I’m going to come up with a *sustainable* schedule. I consistently work until I burn out, which ultimately decreases my productivity!
James Schramko says
Perfect Marissa!
