In this quick tip, James shares the top three things every membership should have to become successful.
The three membership elements. This sort of came clear to me when I was doing a podcast with Taki. He broke it down into three things. And I thought, this makes sense. It explained a lot of things I knew.
Definitely content. People are interested in content. That’s really what you’re going to sell in the beginning is the content. People value content, they’ve been taught to value the content. Coaching is a way you can really overcome this problem about, what if I give all my good stuff away for free? What if you’re doing all these podcasts? I can podcast all day long. I could give away courses, but they can’t interact with me and ask me questions. There’s only so much I’m going to do on a Disqus comment on the back of a post. But I can have a call to action. Hey, discuss this inside the community. Ask me questions if you want to. Come to my event, let’s meet. So you can enhance the content with coaching. And coaching is very valuable. And we’re also trained that that’s valuable.
The thing that we haven’t put value on is community, but it’s the thing we desperately need and cherish especially in this isolation of being, working at home with or without your underpants. You get lonely. And so we’d like to associate with other people. I mean, it’s not often you can be in a room with a couple of hundred people who can talk geeky terms and actually know what you’re talking about, like a squeeze page and stuff. You could try running that down at Hemingway’s at lunchtime, you get weird looks. So the community is not what they joined for, but it’s why they stay. If you can enhance community, then you’re going to have a good thing.
