James: James Schramko here from SuperFastBusiness.com and I have Ilana Wechsler from TeachTraffic.com. Hello, Ilana.
Ilana: Hey, James.
James: We’ve been doing some question and answers. And also, you’ve been kind enough to have a little look over my shoulder, see some of the accounts that we’ve set up. I started running ads, again recently, inspired by our discussions. And then I asked you if you could just have a look and see how I’d set it up. And I just did Stage 1, like very basic stuff. I haven’t logged in for probably seven or eight years prior to setting that up.
And we were just having a little sort of discussion around what are the next steps because once you’ve done the setup, obviously, that’s a big barrier to overcome, then there’s a lot of opportunities that will present themselves as you start to gather – the people visiting your site, there are some remarketing opportunities, you can interplay between different accounts you own. I’d love it if you could just share a couple of quick wins. It’s like, what would you recommend, sort of options that I have for what I’ve done after setting up Stage 1 of AdWords?
Ilana: Yeah, cool. So the beauty with you, James, is that you’re a prolific content producer. And you put that content in lots of different places. So you put it on Facebook, and it all comes to your website, which is great. So you’ve dutifully installed the Google pixel on your website. Yes. You’ve passed that test, which is good.
So Google is remembering these people who’ve come to your website, like, it’s known as the imaginary email list, right? So you’ve got that nice list of people ready to go. And you can show them an ad. I like to say, continue the conversation with people. If somebody has consumed your content, the next logical step might be for them to read your book, for example. So you can show those people an ad for your book.
Now, as I said, because you’re quite a prolific content creator and you have built out a YouTube channel with probably hundreds of videos there now. The beauty is that Google owns YouTube as well, right? So that’s part of the perks of that, that they play nicely together. And Google has allowed people like yourself to connect your YouTube account to your Google Ads account, so they talk to each other. And you can add to your remarketing list of the people who have watched your YouTube video. So anybody who watches any video on your channel, irrespective if they go to your website at all, can be added to a remarketing list, and you can then perhaps show them an ad for your book.
James: So it’s similar to what you can do on Facebook.
Ilana: Yeah, that’s exactly right.
James: Great. So I’m really keen to do that. So I’m going to find out how and this is what you’re teaching inside TeachTraffic.com. If someone’s watching this, they’ve got an account or a few things set up or they even haven’t got it set up, but they need help with that, you’ll actually show them.
Ilana: It’s kinda like you James, like, you’ve got these assets that you’ve built.
James: I’ve got so many assets. It’s like I’ve been growing grapes for years, and I’m ready to make some wine now because you know, luckily my business is very strong without the turbocharger, without the supercharger. I call my business like a normally-aspirated business. The core is strong. Just doing podcasts and good SEO for 10 years, amazingly, brings me a consistent amount of traffic and having good, few, simple solutions that they can buy. It works really well.
But now I’m ready to optimize, to turn on a few buttons and flick on the supercharger, turn on the turbo. And away we go. And it sounds like I’m going to benefit from the work I’ve already done across these two platforms, YouTube and Google. Obviously, we’re bringing organic traffic to our site, and then we activate Facebook as well. Then all the things are going to happen.
Ilana: And it’s the kind of thing where like, as you said, you’re going to turbocharge it, but you don’t have to turbocharge with a huge budget. It’s the kind of thing that your retargeting campaign of all your different assets is like a small hinge that can actually move a really big door. It’s not like it’s cold traffic, this is like low hanging fruit. The grapes are really… you just got to shake that tree a little bit.
James: Yeah.
Ilana: And you can harvest that.
James: I literally just have to run under them with a bucket.
Ilana: Pretty much.
James: They’re ready to go. It’s been really helpful and obviously, a nice surprise that the things have been playing. I’m glad the team have installed whatever they needed to install on the site. I think we’ve covered that in some of our other discussions that we’ve had. There’s a whole bunch of videos like this where we’ve been talking about. I’m now going to go off and start connecting things up. So thank you so much Ilana.
Ilana: No worries, anytime.
James: Yeah, Ilana is available to help you at TeachTraffic.com. Always good to get a few tips from an expert. Thank you.
Ilana: Thanks, James.
