James Schramko here. I want to share with you something that a mentor taught me about how long it takes to actually make significant change. In around about the year 2001, I was approached by a fairly successful guy to go and run his business, and he was not happy with the way that the business was being run until I got there.
And he said to me, “James, we are making Grange.” Now, in Australia, Grange is a top-rated wine. It’s very expensive. It costs about 700 Australian dollars. It’s about 500 US dollars per bottle. It’s good wine. He said, “I don’t care if we need to start from scratch. If we have to get rid of everybody and start again, do it because we’re making Grange.” And his expectation was that we would be able to turn the business around and have something going really well in a few years from now; not tomorrow, not next week, not next month.
And this is important. It does take a while to create something useful. If you’re going to make Grange, there’s a little bit of a short-term pain point, and it will eventually get better if you keep applying it. When I started making these little videos, nobody’s watching them, nobody. But I keep making them and slowly people start watching them. I’m making Grange. I have a one-year minimum time frame to be putting out videos like this because I know that it takes time and I’ve been doing my online business for 12 and a half years and when you look at the way things are now, you might think this is fantastic.
You’re not going to get it tomorrow or next month or maybe not even next year. But in a few years from now, you could have made significant progress. And I will say this, you can change just about every single aspect of your life over a decade. So, ten years from now, you could have something incredibly and wildly amazing if you start now. So, go and make your Grange.
