James Schramko here, and if you’ve ever got to the point in your business where you need to hire people, this tip’s for you.
When it comes to interviewing people, there’s one area that’s really worth focusing on. That is, what happened with this person in the past? And the reason for that is people tend to do in the future what they’ve done in the past. So you want to see what they did in the past as a good indicator of what they’re likely to do when they come and join you.
So focus your questions on that, and if there are any criteria that you would like people to have, or that they must have, then split them into two categories. If you have a must-have criterion, for example, if you’re hiring a delivery person and they must have a driver’s license, then don’t even interview someone unless they satisfy the must-have criteria. And if there’s a nice to have, such as someone’s done a particular course or certification, then list it as a nice to have, but be a little bit flexible, because you never know. Sometimes you’ll find someone who you didn’t expect would be ideal but when you do interview and their past behavior is a really good fit for what you’re trying to do in the future, then you might have a terrific candidate.
I’m James Schramko, I hope you’ve enjoyed this tip.
