James: Will, when it comes to marketing agencies, I’ve seen a problem. And that is, people who I’m coaching, they say they’ve had an agency, but they’re just getting lack of transparency. And when they dig deeper into it, they find out that the people in their account, they’re like interns or juniors that have just been palmed off from the principal.
I remember once, I bought, actually, I was selling a property. And the real estate agent, you know, came and told me how much they’re going to get for my property, and it’s gonna be amazing. And then he signed me up. And then when we went to check out the inspection, there’s some junior there. It’s like, literally his first week in the industry, sitting there on a stool, letting people just wander through unassisted through my property that was for sale. And I remember, I felt like I’d been bait-and-switched.
Now, that’s a pretty heavy term. But there are agencies out there who are romancing people at the front door, and then palming them off onto juniors. And it’s probably an epidemic. And one thing I like about your organization, Growth Labz is that you’re a fairly small operation with limited capacity. I guess that goes along with being smaller. But you’re across more of the things yourself. Can you just speak to that point?
Will: Yeah, it’s such a good point. And I do see this as an issue. I think a lot of agencies are very self-centered or inwardly focused, and they look at things that are going to make it better for them, but not necessarily their clients. And my motto with my agency is I don’t ever want to be the biggest. Not a single cell in my body wants to be the biggest agency out there. I want to be the best.
And you know, I still get moments when I start turning up to client calls. And or even before that, even before clients sign up, and they talk to me and say, Look, who are we going to be dealing with or speaking to every single week or every two weeks when we have our meetings? And I tell them, it’s actually me, and they’re so surprised by that. But I feel like, you know, I’ve got such a responsibility for clients who come on board, and they pay me for a result. And if we outsourced it, if we you know, put juniors in who don’t understand the marketing element, how to create offers, how to write copy, how to communicate well, it’s just not going to get the right results.
And look, there’s so much effort that goes into bringing a client on board, I’d rather keep them for years and years, rather than having to lose clients because the junior is not taking care of them and go back to market. It’s the same effort at the end of the day. I’d rather have it as a great relationship and great results for clients.
James: Man, I’m so on board with this. This is exactly how I coach. It’s like this surfboard in the background here. Hand-shaped by four-time world champion and it’s glassed to last. It’s gonna last for a long time. And it’s like, you could buy 10 really crappy-produced stuff, shaped by some machine that the person doing the glassing never even touched the ocean, right? They’re out there. And you’re going to throw it away. This thing is a keeper.
So if you want high-quality agency, if you want bespoke approach with a man who’s hands on the job, then I recommend Will – GrowthLabz.com. I always appreciate your insights, Will. Thank you for explaining your perspective on this and your approach. Keep doing what you’re doing because the clients I’ve been sending across are getting great results. That’s why I wanted to be on this video. And I look forward to catching up in the future and also have to have a surf.
Will: Definitely will. Thanks James.
