James Schramko here. Today, I want to share with you a tip to stand out in the current marketing scenario that we have, being played out across the internet. And this is the issue that I’m seeing.
A lot of people are pivoting, and the pivoting is being communicated through the same words over and over again: unprecedented times, uncertain times, COVID update, etc. We’re hearing a lot of Coronavirus subject lines, sound bites, and these words are just being played over and over and over again. And the problem with that is that everyone’s doing the same thing, just like normal. Just like before all of this, everyone’s doing the same, same, same marketing.
So if you really want to stand out, I suggest you do something different from everyone else. For the last few weeks, we’ve been maintaining our continued marketing strategy, except we’ve made sure we’ve softened anything and making sure that we’re not going to be any sort of fear-trigger type marketing, because that’s not really what people need right now. They need support, they need help. Making sure you’re not tone deaf is more important. We actually got someone say thank you for making content that doesn’t have anything to do with viruses or Coronavirus, etc in it.
So that’s really my tip. And I know that it’s almost ironic that I would make a video like this during this time, but I think it’s the big mistake. Everyone’s jumping on the COVID bandwagon. They’re all making the same messages, the same announcement – all your suppliers, all your vendors. Every marketer on the planet is pivoting right now, and using the same languaging. So stand out, do something different. Maintain your line, find some other angles.
Just be helpful. Be useful to your customers. Be relevant. Like we were with Episode 727 on SuperFastBusiness about dealing with change. That episode helped people deal with change rather than just going out there with the same sheep-like headlines, etc. So step up, be a little bit different, stand out. People will appreciate you.
