James Schramko here, and today, I’m going to share with you what you might do if someone in your team resigns. I had an email from a customer this morning and he mentioned that someone in his team quit, and he was completely surprised; it was a shock to him. So, what should he do?
And my advice is get in touch and find out what happened. Where was the misalignment in expectation or what could have been there to prevent the situation from happening? I mean, this goes way back to the initial recruitment. What was the advertisement about, like what were you promising? What were the expectations? And what sort of communication style have you had during the process?
And it should never be a surprise. You shouldn’t be surprised as someone lives. In fact, if you build your business to anticipate the fact that it is inevitable at some point in the future, your team member will leave maybe because they’ve changed locations or they’re having a health issue or they just don’t like what they’re doing anymore.
It’s going to happen. So, that’s why in our business, we have at least two people who can do every task plus we document everything with standard operating procedures. So, if someone resigns, seek to understand what is the lesson. What can you learn from this and how can you guard against it in the future?
And if it is a fact that it’s just time then wish them well. Congratulate them and support them in the future and get on with your own business.
