James: James Schramko here. Today, I’m with my friend John Lint from 10XPRO.io.
John: Hey, everybody. Hi, James.
James: John, when we’re building a course or membership, which is what people do with your platform that builds out funnels, it is tempting to try and do too much at once. I certainly know when I’m coaching people inside SuperFastBusiness, sometimes in the introduction thread, they tell me all the things they’ve got going on.
I say, “Well tell me what you’ve got happening.” And they start listing it. And I think sometimes they list it, hoping to impress me. But much like when Jarrod Robinson did that the first time I met him, I was horrified. And I said, “Hey, you’re dead set doing enough to run five separate companies. I have single clients who make millions of dollars a year with just one of the things you’ve listed there.”
Like the other day, I had someone, they said they do market research, websites, articles, press releases, SEO, Facebook, AdWords, and conversion optimization, affiliate management and something else. And I’m just like, Whoa, wait a second. That’s just crazy!
Now, what mistakes do you see people make when it comes to focus for putting together their course? Because we talked about this in our course, OnlineCourseSystem.com, it’s step-by-step. When you see people going through it, what sort of questions are we fielding?
John: Yeah. I mean, exactly like you said, and you know I offer a strategy session as part of the online course system, and I do offer some private coaching as well as part of the system. And it always happens.
Like when we start talking and Hey, what are you working on? I’m working on this, this, this and those. And I guess yeah, like you said, they just want to impress me, or they just want to say, oh, look how busy I am. But actually, when you step back, that’s the biggest mistake that beginners make, or people who are struggling or feeling overwhelmed, is because they’re making that mistake, they’re doing too many things.
And then there’s the other side of things that, okay, you might be doing some things, but then are you doing the right things? And that’s where focus comes in. As an entrepreneur, as the owner of the business, you need to be doing the right things. Because I hope that when people watch this video, they don’t think that we’re saying, Hey, you shouldn’t be doing those things because they are not important. That’s not what we’re saying. We’re saying that you as the owner, you need to be doing the right things.
And if you need to do other things, then get help from someone else. Get some leverage, get tools to help you with that, right? But it’s very important to focus on doing the right things. And then after that, there’s the next step, which is focusing on the things that are going to make you money.
For me, that’s what I used to select, what should I do. When I start my day, when I work, I always ask myself, well, what is the thing that’s going to help me make money the fastest? What’s going to bring me money the fastest? And that’s what I do first, or if I’m wondering, well, should I do these 10 things? Well, which one is actually going to bring me money the fastest? Which one is the most important? And because at the end of the day, that’s the bottom line, right?
I mean, how are we growing our business? And we want to focus on those activities that are going to help us make a lot more. So if we’re going to be spending an hour doing something, well, that one hour should, like 10XPRO.io, should 10X your results, right? You’re spending one hour for let’s say 10 hours worth of result or X amount of money.
And so the input has a big output if you like, if we want to put into those terms. That’s what I always recommend to our members.
James: Well, a simple goal is, what’s going to make money quickly? Especially when you’re starting out, that probably is the number one priority. It was for me when I started online. These days, a big priority for me is what activity do I need to do to sustain the great business and life that I have? How can I help future version of myself have a great day? What if the best years of your life were actually now? That’s what I focused on, and I want to continue to have now moments in the future that are great.
On that note, I’ll leave you. James Schramko here with John Lint from 10XPRO.io.
