James Schramko here, and I want to share with you something that helped me a lot as I was going through my career.
When I was a young salesperson, a client of mine actually gave me a CD cassette, which I mean, it’s dating me, I know. This was in the mid-90s when the internet was only just born. And on this CD cassette was Maxwell Maltz, a plastic surgeon who had discovered that even after fixing people’s appearances, sometimes, they were still unhappy. So, he thought there must be something going on deeper than that. And he talked about role-playing and visualization.
And I’ve been using this for more than 20 years now. And this is, I think about what I would like. I think about what things are going to pan out. I do it before I go for a surf, I do it before I have a meeting with someone. I role play in my mind all of the possible scenarios that might happen. Like playing out a game of snooker in my mind or playing out basketball or practicing for the hoop before I actually shoot. These have been proven to work, and if you visualize a scenario before you get there, it’s not like it’s your first time now. So, this can be a very powerful component of moving forward in your life.
