It's okay to seek advice but there's one filter you must consider before taking action.
In this quick tip, James shares what his grandfather taught him to gauge whether the advice is relevant to you at all.
James Schramko here. Today, I want to talk about getting advice.
This one tip could save people thousands of dollars of getting separated from their money when seeking advice, and this is something my grandfather taught me. And it’s really simple. It’s a filter of saying, ‘Is this person who is giving the advice qualified to give this advice?’ It’s OK to seek out qualifications. It’s OK to do a litmus test and see if the person’s advice is relevant.
So often in business, I see business owners getting advice from their brother or sister or spouse who may not be qualified and who may not have any relevant position on the matter. I also see people buying courses from “experts” who are not qualified. It’s OK to ask your expert for proof, to show you that they are the expert, not just they say they are. Ask for proof.
So make sure, whenever you’re getting advice, do the little test: is this person qualified to be giving this advice?
