Alright, James Schramko here with a news update and this one is about are putting something out there?
I got a Skype message today, a friend of mine said that he was sending me an email introduction to a buddy who is asking to an introduction to me. That means somebody had found my material, mentioned it to my friend and said, “Hey, could you introduce me?” And this is exactly the result we want with our marketing.
What To Put Out There
Let me explain, so I’ve published the course OwnTheRacecourse, I gave it away for free. I talk about making videos like this one where you put out tips, you put it on the Internet and then people watch it. It turns out, I have a core group of people who watch every single video that I put there and when I overextend, when I actually crack the formula and I put out something really good, people share it.
They hit that share tab, they make comments, they mention it to friends. The next thing you know, when someone’s talking about something and somebody’s watched my content that relates to what that topic is, they will say, “Head over here and have a look at this.” And that’s how you start to get invitations, that’s how you start to get a reputation, that’s how you start to build authority with your marketplace.
Create Content That Solves Problems
So my main question this week is, what are you putting out there for people to discover? What message are you sending your target audience about who you are and what you do and what problems you solve?
Because there’s a big tendency to consume and to read a lot of emails and to be the one looking at other people’s stuff and sharing other people’s stuff but I’m encouraging you: be the one to MAKE the content, be the one to CREATE the content.
Move your audience from here to there with a compelling piece of information that helps them. That’s what I’m hoping this video does – it’s encouraging you to create. Get out there, put something into the world, be discovered and let people beat down a path to your door so that you can solve their problems.
I hope this is helpful. Please post any comments below this video, I’ll be happy to make a discussion on the blog here. Until next time.

Thanks for the prod!
My pleasure!
:D I think I’m one of those people who watches every episode. And applies. :)
There are about 500 – 600 people who listen to every episode and I do appreciate it.
Great Video! I just spent half an hour recommending your services to my father-in-law who is an attorney and just published a book for the American Bar Association. I kept saying, James knows how to do anything that you need done for your next project!
thats super thoughtful thank you Amy!
Thanks “Jimmy” Here’s one that is working for me. I have 2 of my clients using the pdf of my book to give to their top clients as a thank you gift. The book has links to videos and free video training. This alone is generating 1-2 highly targeted and very qualified leads per week and has already resulted clients to me and big thank you’s to to my clients from theirs. Win Win and no cost.
P.S. I don’t miss many episodes.
top tip Steve! PDF’s have a higher conversion rate for me than sales pages *as a percentage. They are the ultimate Trojan horse because they are generally stored on the hard drive for a long time.
Great video! I’ll be sharing. :)
I do a monthly free webinar video training that my audience loves. It’s been to call in building my list over the last year – doubling in the last 12 months.
I also do a live interactive training on Spreecast once a month. In fact, it’s tonight!
I think people make a big mistake when they don’t give away their best stuff, or a sample of their best stuff. They think they will save their best stuff for their paid customers, but instead people get a second rate version and aren’t Interested in paying for more.
You’re so right Lain. In fact, I thinkat one point Ryan Deiss and another guy I know Peter Parks both tried to only have paid content with no free stuff. Ryan admitted it was a mistake. Peter now often posts Facebook campaign screen shots to Facebook. If you don’t give away some stuff for free probably know one is gonna find your paid stuff right. :)
Shramy is ahead by a mile if not light years! Blessed to know the legend. Thanks for all you do buddy:)
wow thank you Lenny
Seth Godin talks about ‘shipping’ – good business ships regularly. Nice work James.
and look what always be shipping has brought him!
This comes to me at just the right time, it’s a push for me to get started doing videos and stop talking about doing it. I get a lot out of all of your videos and podcasts. I’m just working though “Own The Racecourse”.
A question that has nothing to do with making videos…Where did you get the table to your right for your laptop?
Hi Vicki that table is a ‘Providore breakfast bar’ and I bought it from a furniture shop called Freedom Furniture. It was the floor stock and I got it for half price. (A few hundred dollars). It has a stainless steel top and a nice footrest! I did find instructions for assembly so someone else could make one http://m.freedom.com.au/IgnitionSuite/uploads/docs/Providore-Breakfast-Bar.pdf Also I now use a Stand Up desk ijn my studio that is height adjustable – see here: https://www.jamesschramko.com/business/do-you-have-a-standup-desk/
Thanks James, I’ve been thinking about getting a stand up desk for several months now, and it’s time to make a move. I can’t talk to David as I live in South Caroling, USA. I love the desk that has the ability to move up and down. More down for those, like me, just starting with a standing desk, and up almost all of the time, once I get used to it.
I also like the weight loss thing, I’m gaining weight spending so much time sitting!
Check out Amazon – you will find plenty there!
