When you think of a virtual assistant, I initially thought, gosh, I don’t know what I’ll have my one person do. And I often see in our recruitment business VisionFind.com, they want someone for a few hours a week. And I’m just like, you can’t possibly have a business that only has a few hours of work activities. It’s just not possible.
Unless you’re at perfect scale and you’re doing not much all week, like you’ve got the leverage already in place, you probably could benefit from a VA. You could list down everything that you’re doing now, that’s a good starting point. But list down all the things that you would be doing if you had unlimited time. What would you do? Because you can go and buy unlimited time.
You can pay for someone’s time, and then it’s a matter of, Oh, but I don’t think this person could do that. Well, that’s okay because you can buy training as well. And you can buy courses, and you can get them access to programs to skill them up and get them using things.
So for example, my podcast editor, who’s been doing this for years, has recently asked for some training, which is great. Now, if I was doing my podcast editing by myself (which I’m really glad I don’t because I gave it up years and years ago), it will be a huge time suck. And if I need to hire someone to do it, if I thought, oh, no one in the world could edit as good as me, firstly, I’ll be wrong because I suck at editing.
But I would then say, right, I need to get someone into my business who wants to just work for me. Then I need to explain to them what I’m doing right now, I’ll show them my process. And then I’m going to enhance that, I’ll get them whatever software is recommended in the course, and I’ll get the best cutting-edge course. I’ll ask my referral network, what’s the best course? Which is what I did today. And then I get them the training and the tools and then they progress. And they can now achieve a level that I can’t even get myself.
And I’m buying that time. And that’s time I don’t have to edit my podcast and I get a better result. So it might feel like you don’t have anything to do. But I would start writing a list of your dream list of all the things that you would like to have achieved in your business but you’re just not getting to because you don’t have time. And that is a good list of things to discuss with a virtual assistant and see how much of that you can transfer across to them.
And of course just like building anything worthwhile, a little bit more effort has to go into that upfront component. And then over time, you get the leverage where you can step back and it pretty much runs by itself, which is the dream and it is possible.
