James Schramko here. Today I want to share with you some thoughts on when it’s time to get a new team member.
I was speaking with a client of mine today. And he’s been doing a lot of things that cause him to be the bottleneck in his business, especially around content. And these days, we know we want to make a lot of videos, we know we’re doing audio, we want to repurpose and leverage and put stuff out there. And it just makes sense to get someone to help you with that.
I remember a few years back, I sat down and I said to my team, I don’t want to do this anymore. Here is my step-by-step SOP, can you please take over for me? And they did and that just freed up all the time. I used to spend hours producing the videos and editing them, uploading them, putting them on my blog, stripping out some bullets, formatting an email, taking the audio version of it, uploading it to iTunes, and all this stuff. Now, I don’t do any of that. Soon as I’ve hit end on this video, it goes up to Drive and my team takes over.
So, I ask my client this, if you had two team members in the Philippines, and if it costs you say $1,000 or $1,500 a month US, and they did all your media and they worked for you for 40 hours a week each, that’s 1000 hours of labor that you can buy for 1000 to 1500 USD, and they can take care of all of your media and you never have to do it again. Would that be worth it? And he said, That sounds good. And I said, how many of your products would you have to sell for that to be a good deal? You know how many products he’d have to sell? One product a month to cover the cost of never having to do all that work again.
So the way to figure out if it’s time is if you are the bottleneck in your content production machine. Secondly, if you sell anything worth $500 or $1,000 or $2,000, you only have to sell one a month for it to be worth you to hire two people. If you don’t know where to get them, get them from VisionFind.com. If you just don’t want to lead or manage or have your own team, then you can use services to do this, but don’t do it yourself. One good service that I’d recommend is ValherMedia.com. Charley there is really good at this stuff. They can take your content and put it everywhere. So there’s two options for you. Build your own team, get someone to do it, but don’t let it be you especially if you have a product or service where you can get a great return on investment.
