James Schramko here. Today, I want to share with you a process that might help you if you get frustrated or upset about someone or something. Occasionally, things will happen – an email, a conversation, or you see something on social media, and you get really angry or upset about something.
And the process that I use now is I actually investigate, why does this make me upset? What is it about what this person has said that is causing me to be upset? And then when I let it digest, and I process it often during a surf, I can come back later and I now understand what it is that caused that. It might be the need for me to reframe the way that I think about something or it might just be the way that it is.
And often, I’ll just let go of it and I won’t be bothered by it. I don’t respond or when I do, I’m still polite and I just move forward and I put it down to a point of difference. But the main technique I’m sharing with you today is question – what is it about this person or this thing or what happened that is causing me? What’s the root cause of this upset feeling that I’m getting? And then resolve it yourself.
