James Schramko here. Today, I’m going to discuss how you can avoid getting sucked into the vortex of checking social media and other notifications.
So, I discovered that things like social media and email and notifications like Messenger and those desktop notifications can really take away from your productivity. So, what I did is I unsubscribed from them all. I turned off all the notification settings on my device. Some people actually remove the app from their phone and that’s very effective as well.
You can also take what I call the hit-and-run approach to social media and that is put it in your diary to get in there once or twice a day, log in, do what you need to do and then get out. That is the social media hit-and-run technique, and it puts you back in the driver’s seat. You’re now in control instead of it coming to you releasing that dopamine. You go to it and that will help you with these devices by turning off the notifications, and you’re in control of when you go to it.
