James Schramko here, author of “Work Less, Make More“. My book was designed to help you make more money and work less.
Now when it comes to this issue I want to talk about today, it’s very common. Some people, I think, quit their job too early and they put all this pressure on making their next venture work or they drain capital or a loan even worse. So don’t be that person. You don’t have to put yourself at risk. It’s actually okay to have a job.
I had a job for the first two and a half years while I was building my online business, and it was tough, but I didn’t have that pressure because I could still put food on the table. I just had motivation. I wanted to quit the job but I set a trigger. And the trigger for me was I needed to match my income. Once my income from my job was met by my online business and exceeded, I was out of there. And I never looked back. And that was over 10 years ago.
So when you look at my business now, it’s fantastic. But just keep in mind when I started my online business, I still had a job. And it was the way that I got started. So there’s no need to go through all that extra pressure. If you’ve got a job and you’re trying to do this online thing, I would say just stick with the job and get your offer working so that you can safely move to the next stage.
It’s like Tarzan swinging from one vine to the next, getting a good grip on that vine before letting go of the old one. You don’t want to be mid-air, out of control, wondering if you’re going to land because that stress is going to make your life difficult.
And I think, it actually increases the chance of failure. A lot of people just melt and you’ll never ever go back and try again because it was too horrific. There’s my tip for today.
