James Schramko here. Today, I want to talk about choice. You may find yourself in a situation that you are not entirely happy about. Maybe external factors are boxing you in. They’re controlling, to some extent, where you have found yourself. This is like being dealt a bad round of cards.
And what I want to talk about is the choice you have with those cards. Firstly, take responsibility for the fact that you are sitting there with the cards you’ve been dealt. But now, it’s how you play the cards. You can be defeatist and just throw your hand in and give up. Or you can say, I’m going to make the best I can with the situation I’ve got.
And most importantly, every single day is a new opportunity for you to say, I’m going to do things differently today. I’m going to put myself in a better situation in the future through my actions today. So when you look around, there are some people having a really great time. And when you go behind the scenes, you’ll see they’ve engineered themselves to be in that position.
I, for the longest time, talked about how dangerous it is to have a job, how that is single-source dependency on one employer. And when we see a whole bunch of people losing their job, they’re unfortunately finding out how true that is. They’re feeling helpless and lost. Now the reality is, the best time for them to have protected themselves would have been to have set up their own business in the past. Get paid by hundreds or thousands of people is a great safety net.
Now that may not be possible. You’ve been dealt the cards. It’s now time to say, what will you do today to put yourself in a better future situation? Will you start your own business? Will you take a course? Will you step up and answer the challenge? Because I’m pretty certain that in a year or two from now, there will be some amazing success stories and the catalyst for it will have been this external motivator that came along and pulled the rug on your life that caused you to step up. Because a lot of the people I know, I’ve been encouraging them to put these steps in place years ago, and they haven’t. And now they’re paying the price. But they can do it today and that’s the thing. It is not too late. You’ve got time. Start and see where you get in a few years from now and you may be surprised.
