James Schramko here, and today’s tip is around negotiations.
A common mistake that I’ve seen people do is they actually signal that we’re in a negotiation. They might say, “OK, now it’s time to negotiate.” Or, “Let’s negotiate.” And “negotiate” is a red flag word. It can trigger that panic and fear around an intense business situation.
So instead of using the word “negotiation”, we might use a softer wording. Something like, “OK, let’s discuss this and see if we can make this work for everybody.” Or, “Let’s see if we can make sense of this.” Or, “Let’s see how this can move forward in a way that everyone’s happy.” That’s a softer way to look at it. We don’t want to use the word “negotiation”. And if you take this approach, you might find that things come your way more easily.
