James Schramko here. I want to share with you a really quick technique that you can use to decide if you should take on a new project or move forward with something. I use this two-stage filtering.
Stage 1 is, I figure out is this right for me – yes or no? That’s the first step. It’s a yes-or-no thing. Immediately, I will often know that something is not right for me. It doesn’t meet my values or my filtering criteria. And I’ve talked about those sort of things in other videos so that’s the first stage. It’s either yes or no.
Now, if it’s a no, that’s easy. We can just shut it down really quickly. So that might be an email approach that you get from your helpdesk. You know, ‘Hey would you like to have this guest on your podcast? My team automatically, like, no. If it’s a yes, then there’s another stage I recommend you put in and that is, is it a yes now or is it a yes later? So this way, often we want to pursue something but it’s not the perfect time right now.
So instead of a hard cold no and instead of an instant yes, then we have the option of saying, it’s a something-for-the-future thing. It’s a “not now” situation and then you put it to your someday or your later folder, whatever type of system you have for follow-up, and move it. With my clients, I’m often looking at their business on a 12-week cycle, so we’ll say, ‘Hey, we think we should be doing webinars or we think YouTube advertising would be good. So it’s a yes but it’s not a yes right now. It’s a yes in the future. Let’s review this in 12 weeks from now.
So there’s your two stages – Stage 1: yes or no, Stage 2: yes now or yes later. I hope this has been thoughtful for you. I’m James Schramko. I have lots more tips like this and training inside JamesSchramko Membership. I’ll see you in there.
