The second engagement hack is to hook them in. So once you are looking at the video, you want people to stop scrolling. Think about a different way that is disruptive to hook somebody in because people apparently have a shorter attention span than goldfish. Apparently, people have an eight-second attention span and goldfish actually have nine. So do as much as you can to stop people from scrolling. So that’s called a pattern interrupt, by the way.
So I’ll just share with you my 4P framework that I use to do social media videos. So the first P is the Pattern interrupt. And the point of that is to stop the scrolling. And if you’re not that creative, a simple way that you can do this is just by posing a statement or a question at the very start of your video.
So this is my friend and mentor, Mark. And we just did a whole bunch of videos at his place. He wanted it to be really simple. So all we did was talk, pretty much, and we just cut a sentence from his actual talk and we stuck it at the front. And then after that the logo and intro came in. Then after the logo is your positioning statement.
You position yourself – who are you and what do you do? So that’s the second P. The third P is the main message. So you play a message, whatever you’re going to say in your video. And the fourth P is the push for action or the call to action. So this is one of many frameworks that there are.
