James Schramko here. I want to share with you something I did once that doubled my business.
It was early 2008, I was sitting there at a rented beach place on my annual leave. I still had a job at the time and I was watching the John Reese Traffic Secrets DVD series. And there was one line he said in there that just really gave me an epiphany and that was, clone your existing business and compete with yourself.
And I thought about that, I thought, that’s brilliant. So I immediately registered another domain, I set it up on a new server, and I built a new website to compete with my already successful affiliate marketing website. And that is shortly before I doubled that business. And I kept doing it a few times. And I ended up locking up most of page one on Google for this particular software that I was promoting as an affiliate.
So very powerful strategy. Like, imagine if you had Pepsi and then you say let’s change the formula a bit, we’ll change the label, we’ll go into the same market. And then you put out Coke. So you’re like Pepsi and Coke, but basically anyone drinking cola is still dealing with you. Now a lot of multinational companies do this. They have multiple product lines coming from the same company, the same company owns them, but they put them out on under different brands. This is advice I gave Ezra Firestone once with his product to put out under different brands.
So, if you’re struggling with your current brand or you’ve maxed it out or reached market saturation, or you’re looking for an innovation, I highly recommend, have a look at how you could clone your existing business, put a new wrapper on it and go out after the same or a different customer with the same product.
Okay, this is a really easy win. And by the way, when I did that and I got that result in 2008, that’s what sparked me to buy a ticket to get on a plane, go to the United States, attend Yanik Silver’s event. And of course, from there, everything changed for me. Not long after that event, I quit my job and never looked back. So cloning my business is one of the steps that got me on that path.
