I recently got a guest, Charley Valher from Valher Media, on Episode 748 of SuperFastBusiness. And he went through the whole thing behind paid traffic. It’s not something that I’ve really explored that much, so I was really interested in this, and you’ll hear this in my voice in the conversation we had. But he’s figured out which platforms are really good to buy traffic to send to your podcast. He also talks about which different niches this is going to affect.
There are several platforms and there are also different ways you can put the creatives, i.e. what do you actually advertise. And he’s tested a whole bunch of things – long, short extracts, entire episodes. He talks about where he’s advertising. And I’ll give you one hint – my Twitter account is one where he’s been buying ads because he feels that my customers are good customers for him. And rightly so. Because over at Valher Media, lots of my SuperFastBusiness customers are getting great podcasting tips and advice and editing services, etc.
Charley is absolutely fascinated, I’d say obsessed, with podcasting. But what he’s done that’s really clever is he found a way to get new podcasts up and running much faster. There are over 700,000 podcasts. And unless you’ve been doing it for a very long time, like I have, which is over 10 years, it’s actually pretty competitive. But now you can leapfrog in front of all the other people who are just starting out by specifically targeting the right people with the right ad to build your episodes up and to cause sales. And I know Charley is vested in this being successful for him, because this is how he generates his income, both through his agency, but also, he partners with some people on their business where the podcast is a big part of it. And the better it goes, the better he goes. So he really knows his stuff.
