James Schramko here and I’m at the “I Love Marketing” event in Phoenix, Arizona; this week’s tips for Internet Marketing.
Prove your claims
We’re going to talk about copywriting. Whenever you make a claim in your copy, be sure to back it up with proof. If you have an outrageous claim, you’re going to need plenty of proof.
And over time your market will get tired of outrageous claims. You can actually dull the claims down a little bit and make sure that your proof is really believable and you should still see conversions.
I want to thank Alan for posting this in SuperFastBusiness this week. Welcome to the forum, Alan has the best copywriting tips ever so get in there and have a look at the other things he’s posted.
Get back up from being slapped
Exact match domains got absolutely slapped to death by Google recently, I have seen a graph of how many sites Google is reindexing and it’s like off the Richter scale. They are refreshing the whole internet by the look of it.
If you have been affected, just have a look at your site. If it was a one page thing just like a suburb and a business and you’ve got no other fresh content on there, then at the very least you should go and add 5 posts. Original posts, just like the Content Assault training. And maybe, when they reindex it or refresh it in the first update, you might get picked back up again.
If you have had original content, really good useful stuff, and a deeper site, you probably haven’t been affected. I’ve looked at my records now, across all of my little sample sites that we run Adsense on, we’ve only lost a couple and they were very exact back match domains and they were a little bit light on in terms of quality or freshness.
So get out there.
But the ones that I’ve got that are really fresh and updated are perfect. They’re kicking buck. In fact some of their rankings have improved.
Track where your conversions are coming from
Be sure to use tracking URL’s. I teach this in SuperFastConversions. It’s a little training course. The thing is, when you know where your traffic is coming from, it’s very easy to get more of the good traffic especially when you’re tied in with your goals.
Now what I’ve just done recently is I’ve updated my YOURLS tracking shortener to include the Google Analytics variables. I’ve posted some “how-to’s” in SuperFastBusiness on this, but it basically means I can very quickly create a trackable and shortened 301 redirect link. So I know where my traffic’s coming from. I can see my conversions and do more of what works.
Try a separate hosting for your media
If you’re putting videos or images on your site, be sure to use some other hosting other than your reseller account because your bandwidth is going to be off the map. Use Amazon S3 for audios and images and for videos, use YouTube or Wistia because then you’re taking that traffic load off your site and the site will load faster which is going to give you better quality scores and you’ll actually get better conversions when your site loads fast. So get your media away from your site.
Get paid first
One of our SuperFastBusiness members, Nathan, has switched to getting paid in advance. He used to do the job and then get paid; now he’s asking for the money upfront. And guess what, not a single change in the sale.
No rejections, no “why is this.”
People just accept it. They paid. And I think he sleeps better at night and he’s probably enjoying his work more.
Switch to getting paid upfront if you’re in a standard sort of contractor position where you’re doing work on credit. You really don’t have to do work on credit unless you want to take a different approach, whereas you’re proving results and then getting paid. But for standard contractor work, I think you should get paid upfront and life will be much easier.
Implement what you learn
My question for you this week is what have you implemented from all of these videos I’m sending? You can see I’m sending you videos from on the road. I’m not letting the fact that I’m travelling around the world get in the way of me sending out these videos.
But what are you doing from these tips? Post your comments below this video and I’ll happily answer any of your questions.
Catch you next week.
