Cate: I was doing too much in the business and I probably was not putting enough systems in place to work on the business. It completely consumed me. I had no life balance so I thought, probably what I need to complement my strengths is a group of people that really know how to take an idea, take it to the market and then market it really effectively.
Well I thought SuperFastBusiness Live would be great for me because they are real marketers that had actually implemented and executed the kind of strategies that I was looking to learn. What I like about it is they’re all genuine speakers, they’re not pitching, they’re talking about their own businesses and the sort of strategies that have worked for them.
I first became aware of James Schramko from the FreedomOcean podcast. Everything always sounded like it went smoothly and easily for James and it certainly didn’t for me.
James: When I first met Cate, she was selling her business because she didn’t like it. The business is extremely demanding and difficult, she’s been doing it for a while.
Cate: He said don’t sell it. Just author it so that you’re working the way you wanted to be working. You can do it by changing things without having to go and sell it for a price which was less than what it’s worth, which was I was confronting.
Just that process of starting to let go and starting to delegate and starting to allow other people to take more of that front-facing role and seeing that every time I made one of those decisions, the business actually grew.
James: And the irony is she’s now been able to make the business run so well without her – that it’s actually a business not a job and it’s the kind of business that you would want to buy rather than sell.
Cate: I have time to just take my dogs out to the beach or the park in the middle of the day when no one else is there, just to give myself a break and some fresh air and some exercise. I feel like I really have a future now where I can build a business that I love: helping people with problems that I can really genuinely create value for them in their lives.
People can create value in a number of ways. You can make money for people, you can save money for people, you can save time and effort for people and you can support people emotionally. And I feel that being part of SuperFastBusiness gives me all of those things. Every single one of those boxes is being ticked for me.
I feel really inspired and really passionate about the way it is now and I honestly don’t think I could have got here without the help that I’ve had.

Great James – very useful insight – would your live event apply to someone who has been looking to start but has not started a business yet?

Sean I think it would be the absolute best place to get started because you would be there with a few hundred people who speak the language and would indoctrinate you very quickly into the right ways of doing things
Thanks James
Just booked my seat – see you there
