James Schramko here with a business news update. Now I’ve just come back from a trip, where I’ve been to a few different countries and I’m going to share with you why I went and what I did while I was over there and what I’m doing now that I’m back home.
Catching up with the team
So the first stop was the Philippines, and I was able to meet with all of my managers who run the various divisions of the business – our SEO business, our website development business, our affiliate marketing arm, and our Internet business coaching communities, SuperFastBusiness and SilverCircle.
With each of the managers, I was able to go through our performance for the quarter, and what we’re planning to do next quarter, and to spend that quality time going over the numbers, the challenges, the strengths where we’re going really, really well, and what we really want to spend our focus on. And that time with the managers allowed us to have tremendous vision and focus for what we’re about to do next year.
Now after that, I took the entire team to lunch, and it was really good to put all the people in a room and to see that we have a real and substantial business there that’s over fifty people now in SuperFastBusiness. But it doesn’t feel like that when I’m working from home or from wherever I happen to be traveling to.
So we are a real business with real people, and it’s nice to show them that I care a lot about them and that we are happy to share the vision of where we’re going and to have real connections. Now we’re coming up to our fourth year as a team, so it’s pretty special, and it’s a testimony to being able to run a business remotely, which we referred to a few weeks ago when I suggested you read the book “Remote”.
Assessing the business
The next stop for me was to head over to the United States, to California, and I spent a few days workshopping my own business, looking for the best in me and what are my absolute strong points that I want to focus on only and weeding out all the things that I shouldn’t be doing. Peter Drucker really said this well. He said we should focus on our strengths and eliminate our weaknesses by having someone else do them. Words to that effect.
So what I did is write down a list of everything that I’m doing, and make sure that I’m not doing anything that could be done by somebody else. Now I do like making these videos, so that came up quite strong on my list of things that I should be doing. It’s something I feel that is a special part of my business right now, and I like sharing the information with you.
Certainly over the last year, it’s been instrumental in growing my business. It’s pretty much the main traffic and content marketing initiative that I do, combined with my email list. Now if you’re not on my email list, be sure to subscribe at SuperFastBusiness.com, because I’ll let you know when there’s new videos or interviews.
For next year, I know exactly what I’m doing in the first quarter, because I’ve now locked it in with my team, I’ve planned it out with myself, sitting down, working out the direction and the strategy that I want, and that’s something you should do as the business owner. I encourage you over this festive season and over the break, take the time to rest and rejuvenate and recuperate so that you can come to next year strong.
But also have a good sense of what you’re doing. Because success really is about doing the right things. Put some time, dedicate yourself to knowing what those things are, which things you should be doing, and which things other people should be doing.
If you’d like help from me in your business, I urge you to come and join SuperFastBusiness.com. That’s a membership where I’ll be coaching you every day, and if you have a really good business already, say you’re doing a hundred thousand dollars a year or more, and you want to develop your online business, come and join SilverCircle.com.
I’m putting a lot of effort into those two memberships next year. I’m really building them up to be strong, and to be able to help more people.
So thanks for watching this video. I’d love your comments and questions about your planning process. I’ve got a few ideas and some tools that work really well for that. I look forward to your comments.
I’m James Schramko, thanks for spending time with me. And you know what I’ll be doing right now? I’m going to go for a surf. Because it’s just as important to have time off and to do the things you love so that it’s all worthwhile. Take care and have a Merry Christmas.
