Coolest Guy On The Planet Update
This blog is still just hovering in the first half of page one for
Coolest Guy On The Planet. I have learnt a lot from this project however I have learnt a lot more techniques than I have tested on this domain.
A Worpdress Blog could romp this blogger blog and I am into far more lucrative SEO ventures these days like building a large network of blogs.
Quick Wordpress Tips:
- Use a custom permalink structure
- Grab all-in-one or platimun SEO plugins
- Make sure you put a special ping list in it

The Coolest Guy On The Planet Experiment Lives Again
Eric Louviere raised the topic of coolest guy on the planet in the 'New" Warrior Forum recently. It seems the new V Bulletin based forum is very SEO friendly, Hint Hint.
So - years down the track the experiment gets a boost.
It makes me reflect - what is this competition really about, why bother?
It is an experiment. A way to test theories. We have the mass link brigade with 'shady' content. We have the on page optimizers. We have the mature domain gang and we have the targetted URL people. Different blogs, websites, articles, bookmarks and other methods...
You learn a LOT when you watch the site move around after google slaps and changes in algo's The reality is with SEO a variety of approaches can be applied to get a similar result. The interesting thing is that
most of the page one crew have stayed there for at least the last year. There have been many many attempts by others to infiltrate but they either give up or fall short. It is not as easy as some people claim to stay there.
I am still waiting for Peter Drew to be first like he promised ages ago - come on Pete - make some tricky RSS blaster 'bad-ass ' software that catapults you past the other guys and allows you to STAY there ;)
Coolest Guy On The Planet Lessons:If I were starting today there is no way I would try and do it with a blogger blog on my domain. I would be making a straight HTML page using
XSitePro 2 and a
Semiologic Woprdpress blog just behind it giving it a nudge.
This happy combo has served many of my page one results.
Traffic Secrets is may latest page one victory in a fairly competitive field.
Product Launch Formula is still ranked very well too. I have hundreds of others like that (sorry not telling).
The best thing about SEO is that even a newbie can apply solid fundamentals and get SEO results. Search engines do not rate people on race, color, religion, wealth or experience. Just talent.
The legacy is a blog with PR 3 that can index a new website within minutes when required. Comments are welcome. at the Coolest Guy On The Planet Blog

Coolest Guy On The Planet
I have been doing some new SEO stuff so I thought I should mention it on the coolest guy on the planet blog.
Seems a long time ago that I started this blog and many things have changed. The search engines are still great fun to learn from and test out.
This post I want to tip www.Feedage.com. What you do is submit your RSS feeds there and it syndicates it across the web, This is a great way to get indexed and get some cool G love.
The other cool thing getting great results lately is blogging with plugins in Wordpress. I know this is a blogger blog but I mainly only use Wordpress now.
A cool new friend of mine Barry Plaskow is running a breakthrough interview series called Marketing Masters Series. The interviews are free and great listening.
Listen NowIf you are interested in Web2Submitter, Video Utility Poster or Trackboost you should check put together a Wordpress Plugins pack called

Coolest guy on the planet update - plf campaign
Well the experiment for product launch formula ended up
really well. I managed to help many people get introduced to PLF 2.0 and it was a very profitable sales day at launch. I would not change much in hindsite other than have less concentrated anchor text (less than 30% keywords) and build links a little slower.... If I did that I would not have hit the sandbox at all.
As the search engines will show my domains have risen from the ashes and are ranked number one for the term I was chasing and I have many many listings on the first two pages of Google for many terms.
Now I will start building a list of names from that traffic and recycle it through my newsletter.
If you read all the posts from my campaign below you will learn a bit about HOW I managed to rank for those terms.
I hope you enjoyed this case study and I will keep posting more content for the next experiment. Perhaps I could put the same amount of effort into ranking for
coolest guy on the planet one day!

Xomba is really cool
I joined up at
www.xomba.com because I noticed hight rankings for product launch formula coming from there. I have done some quick study of the site and it allows you to post original articles - called Xombytes and you can tag other web content called - Xomblurbs.
The posts are put on the first page after posting and they are on a PR 4 site.
My example Xombyte was about
product launch formula and my example Xomblurb called
search engine optimization case study points back to this website (

Xomba is easy to use and has a nice adsense earnings function.

Cool Product Launch Formula 2 Video Bonus
Ok, I just made a video about my product launch formula bonus.
To make the video I took some screen shots and blended them with some royalty free music and some slides with instructions. The purpose of the video is to take some traffic from the video sharing sites. I used keyword tags on those sites to get traffic.
I used www.tubemogul.com to upload the video to all the sites in one go. You can select different thumbnail images and categories to make the video slightly unique.
After upload I went to digg and stumbleupon and delicious to tag the video and then I added the embed code to the review blog and dugg that too. I asked for comments on my blog for people who want to ask questions. This is one of the product launch formula pre-release strategies John Reese mentions in version one of the product launch formula.
The video can be seen at my
product launch formula 2 review news blog.P.S - If you are enjoying this coolest guy on the planet SEO confession then you are welcome to digg or stumble this post or make a comment!

Product Launch Formula Update - new lens
One of the coolest ranking factors on the planet is squidoo lens power.
This
product launch formula bonus squidoo lens is one I made tonight.
Straight after I make the lens (which has one RSS feed from the
main product launch formula review website blog) I go to onlywire.com and do a bookmarking exercise.
Then I go to pingoat or pingomatic to ping the lens and the bookmark sites.

My Coolest Guy On The Planet Traffic and SEO Plan - (Post 177)
For this blog (which is currently running sixth for the coolest guy on the planet) I will start some web 2.0 tagging and promotion.
I recently launched a site and had 7000 page views within 14 days and it is sitting at 4th in Google for the search term it competes for.
For that site I engaged some of the basics I learnt here on the coolest guy on the planet blog.
The main things I did extra were really effective and they included getting more independant blogs pointing back to the site and pages within the site.
I also did a directory and search engine submission. Then i did a
top ten optimizer report. The results were fast.
Then i did a keyword check for my competition and copied the main phrases for my pages. Then I blogposted links to those pages.
Next I made sure I announced the blog posts in Stumbleupon, Digg, propellor and then used Onlywire to tag all my bookmarks.
After that I submitted Video to You tube and Google Video.
I changed all my forum signatures and then made a special offer in a popular forum to get leads. I ran an autoresponder course.
To top it all off I submitted articles and classifieds ads to link back.
I will do all of this for this blog over the next few months to see what happens.
This will be interesting for the coolest guy on the planet blog!

Manny is still 4th Coolest Guy On The Planet - (post 170)
What a relief it must be for Manny to be back in the coolest guy on the planet game. Well done.
It was certainly a great lesson for all of us to keep tabs on ownership of our IP. One of the best lessons in business is to start as you wish to continue. We have all started down some paths and realised they are wrong at some point. Making mistakes is how we learn the right thing!
One of the coolest ways to look at your business is this:
- Identify what is working - and do more of it.
- Identify what is not working and do less of it.
If you are setting up a web business then I encourage you to get your own domain and hosting as soon as you can afford to:
Get a Domain Name
Get a Web Host
One day you might be the coolest guy on the planet, and get to sleep at night knowing nothing can pull the rug from you...

Another Coolest Guy bites the dust (post 169)
Ouch - One of the page one coolest guy on the planet entrants has lost his blog.
Lesson - make sure if you intend to build a website that you get your own domain.
Mr Leger wishes he paid the $8 it would have taken to protect his efforts. The blog he built to compete in the coolest guy on the planet game was hosted with blogrox and it has been vaporized.
You often hear of this sort of thing happening to Wordpress blogs hosted and wordpress and blogger blogs hosted with Blogger.
This coolest Guy on the planet blog may move up one spot once re-indexing kicks in. We shall wait with interest!

coolest ppc software on the planet - (post 168)
I really think
speedppc is cool ppc software. Very fast and effective.
There was my cool software review. My coolest guy on the planet blog is still page one. The rankings are all quite steady.
My home page is starting to slip away under pressure from new entrants like Kelvin H. I have not kept the focus on the keywords with that page, with almost no mention of coolest guy on the planet it is relying on links only.
The new coolest guy on the planet page of mine is coming 31st at the moment, and my newest of all is sitting at 81st.
Peter Drew is doing something tricky with RSS again - he is a mad scientest for sure. (Hi Pete).
There is lots of talk of three way linking etc lately and I am sure it all works well. I have been busy building new projects and it is nice to come bcak and visit

Coolest Moves - (Post 167)
The dance is on again. M Leger has just taken a fall, and Peter is up again. Strange.
I have started a new Blog to prop this one up a little. I wont link to it from here because I want some one way love.
It is going to be testing the themed approach.
I have run some super dooper reports using nicheware on the three terms: coolest, guy and planet. I want to see if I concentrate on those three terms and then build around them with related terms using google trends. If successful I should have a little themed tightly content relevant site.Notice: I am concentrating mainly on on-page structure. This is deliberate because it is more in my control and I have proven time and time again that I can be more stable than other sites that are more in-bound link dependant. Whenever the big G dances, the link dependant sites shuffle a lot more than mine. Will my
coolest guy on the planet blog stay hovering around mid-page one forever?
Only time will tell......

Coolest Guy On The Planet - (Post 163)
Wow!
Jon Leger went from 4th to tenth Coolest Guy on the Planet overnight.
Perhaps the "Squidoo boost" ran out fast.
This happens so often in SEO - the new arrivals have a moment in the sun then slip away.
Peter Drew is now back above my blog, I imagine he has put in a little more than 20 minutes now since I have seen his posts in forums and social sites. Good work Pete, how many backlinks are you up to now?
As I predicted- my Home page
coolest guy on the planet has just popped on to page two since I moved the actual "on-page" optimized static page to
http://www.coolestguyplanet.com/ (a sub page within my domain).
The experimental page of mine with just one H1 Tag and two other lines made it to position 27 all by itself without external influence.
I just pointed my squidoo lens here for a little experiment - we shall see what happens.

Coolest Guy On The Planet - (Post 160)
This Blog (
Coolest Guy On The Planet) is currently 6th and my other page is 7th in Google.
MSN still has me at number 1.
My other (old Blogspot Blog) is 7th in Yahoo for this cool SEO comp.
What is happening at the moment?
Well, I have my SEO Article about the coolest guy on the planet SEO Competition sitting on page 2 of Google (The ezinearticles one) it has had 32 page views, but hopefully more publishers will post it to sites and give it some leverage.
My Blogcatalog blog post is gathering a network of friends all by itself - mostly SEO related marketers.
Peter Drew (the VI guy) is sitting near me - some days he is just a nose in front, and today he is below me - Hi Pete!.
Brad Fallon is first and Russell Brunson is second, and Garrett is still third.
There is some wierd new entrant hovering around but I can't work out what it is or How it is ranking? We will see.
Jon L is on page 2 - his Squidoo lens is going quite well.
I am going to try Peters WP Burner and get some RSS feeding out there.
Based on Google Video being an authority I might submit a video directly to them as well and see what happens.
This Coolest Guy on the Planet SEO Comp / Game is always a great way to learn new stuff about Search Engine behaviour.

Web 2.0 for accelerated SEO learning - (post 158)
What can we learn from each other? - some Blogs allow comments so they can produce a dialogue you can observe and learn from.
I have had some comments (post 156) regarding my observations of the Viral SEO blogger Peter.
Peter is using very interesting SEO techniques for his Peterinoz
coolest guy on the planet attempts.
I thought I would make a post to explain what is going on.
First, just to clarify, I am referring to
post 156 where I mentioned Black Hat versus White Hat.
Dear Peter,
Thanks for commenting on my blog and also posting on yours (The link from a high PR blog is greatly appreciated ;). I did not know you had re-purposed your older blog but now that you mention it it does make sense. To have a PR5 Blog to start with is a major asset for any SEO game. I only wish I had a few more of them.
I used the term Blackhat for much the same reason as you did, it makes people read our sticky content. The DRAMA headline is also designed to catch the wandering eye. I think humans LOVE drama otherwise we wouldn't be watching TV so much.
I actually agree with you that "Blackhat" is over played and looks all scary.
**The main thing that caught my attention was seeing my own content on your blog**
The way I picked it up was with Google alerts for the
XSitePro words.
If you were wondering why I mentioned spam in my post it was because I thought your blog may have "edged" into the
spamdexing zone a little since I thought it is primarily engineered to get indexed high and offers spun content. Since your blog has real posts now
The question I posed was really - should spun content be rewarded with high rankings? What value does it offer visitors?
That is why I was wondering if you will stay ranked. Google has made no secret of the fact that it is trying to deliver value content. Many of the sploggers blogs have been pulled from the search results as Google finds them.
I think it will be harder and harder to rank with spun content because as it becomes easier and easier with tools there will be more and more competition, and then like most technology rushes Google will shut them down.
The only question is how fast can Google track it down and remove it?
Given the context of the
coolest guy on the planet game, I don't mind you using the content on your experiment, especially now that we are building an interlinked coolest guy on the planet web 2.0 powerhouse ;).
I also understand why you would use content from already successful ranked blogs. I have linked to many of them for the same reason.
Your comments regarding Jon's SEO effort were interesting because he has a different approach. His page has dropped away at the moment so he will need to emply more tactics to get back up.
Off-page linking will still beat On-Page optimization.
Your web 2.0 networking solution seems to be very powerful and I love learning more about this technology.
Yesterday I wrote three SEO articles for distribution just to earn some more quality backlinks. The trade off is the time invested in writing them. The content is original and useful.
Feel free to grab an affiliate link to my XSitePro
XSP Cheet Sheet and at least monetize your blog :) it contains some useful seo and traffic tips, lol.
This is really what it is all about, interconnected ORIGINAL content with relevancy to the topic (SEO).
Besides I think the more Australians in the top Coolest Guy On the Planet spots the better!
When will your SEO video make it to the top of the serps? That looks like the most interesting project of all.
Regards
James
p.s - I would be interested in readers opinions regarding viral SEO versus Traditional methods.

New Black Hat SEO entrant creates drama - (post 156)
If you have a search for "
coolest guy on the planet" right now you will see a fellow Australian called Peter ranking just above me with just 20 minutes worth of
Black hat SEO trickery. (Hi Peter).
His Viral blog creation tool (ViralInstigator) has regurgitated content from my blog and others to make a mutant looking blog that has indexed very effectively. I was quite surprized to see my own words scrambled all around his blog, just next to the real one (mine:)
Some of his readers are confused and are asking him XSitePro quesions because that was the post (post 155) he borrowed.
(edit - I thought he might have borrowed my header but he did not)
Ironically it does not allow comments so I can't post my comments into his blog.
(edit - comments are now turned on see coments)
It appears to work on a social bookmarking and blog network sharing system.
Just a few questions come to mind.
1) Do people want (edit) viral generated blogs ranked in the search engines?
2) (edit) Will Google delete the viral generated blog?
3) Is it fair for people to be using these programs to create vast networks of income producing adsense sites?
Contrast that with Jon L's white hat version - using only standard recommended Google friendly techniques. (edit- according to him)
By the way, I am not saying you need to be black hat or white hat, the interesting thing here is that both versions are working effectively and are indexed....for now.
I will be watching from the sidelines with interest as my neighbours fight it out.
Jon or Peter?
Who is the coolest guy on the planet?
Can the BlackHat SEO (edit) blogger survive and is White hat a waste of time? or will the Black Hatter get removed?
Keep watching.......

Coolest Guy On The Planet is Back - (post 144)
WOW! - My
Coolest guy on the planet blog is back in the Google Index!
What happened? - I am not sure. I did a comparison of the content of this blog versus my index page and it was only 12% similar.
I did change the tags a little so they have different descriptions - perhaps caused the conflict?
Anyway - lets get this blog cranked up a little to stay in the Google top ten.

coolest guy on the planet - (post 141)
Ouch!
Coolest guy on the planet just disapeared, you may not even find this post because when you type "coolest guy on the planet" into
Google it does not come up.
I have mentioned this before, the blog dissapears for a day or so and then magically reappears...
My coolest guy on the planet home page is coming 9th - it dropped from 4th.
The index coolest guy on the planet page is more static and is very consistant with rankings.
This coolest guy on the blog moves around a lot because I actively post items here. Whilst I am enjoying very good unique traffic to this blog (the most ever) - I have decided to split the non "coolest guy / SEO " content away to my new
James Schramko wordpress blog.
So from now on (to keep the page keywords and search engine optimization terms more topical) I will blog mostly SEO stuff on this coolest guy on the planet, and post other internet marketing etc content on the new blog.
2) My other concern is the change to Google regarding "googlebombing". I don't see why it should bother this blog because the content on these posts mainly relates to
coolest guy on the planet stuff, so any backlinks I have coming to the blog should match with the theme.
If I have been penalized for "google bombing" then I should make a re-appearance soon in the results with the new content structure - including this keyword rich post.
It looks like it is time to dig out
IBP and do some content optimization for the coolest guy on the planet.

coolest guy on the planet is 4th & 5th - (post 138)

Coolest guy on the planet blog and index are 4th and 5th in Google at the moment.
The blog is still PR3 and getting lots of traffic.
The latest tweaks I have made are mainly in having descriptive page descriptions so that more of you click on it. This more or less creates a vote of relevancy every time you click on my coolest guy on the planet blog whenever the search result is presented.
I am also going to be sure to "ping" this post and for the first time add labels to the post (the new blogger allows this).
Happy Australia Day for all you Aussies out there.
