Coolest Guy Planet

What is this James Schramko coolest guy on the planet page all about?

seo summary:

Coolest guy on the planet is a Search engine optimization "game" and it started in 2005.

SEO or search engine optimization (or search engine optimisation) is the practise of making websites rank well in search engines. This aids SEM (search engine marketing) for businesses. If you place 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th,5th,6th,7th,8th,9th or 10th for your "keyword" in a search engine - then you will get more clicks.

The story is that Mike Filsaime and Brad Fallon were challenging each other to prove their Search Engine Optimization ability, and be the name that comes up in Google for the search term "Coolest guy on the planet".

Naturally this is going to be difficult when every SEO expert is competing for that search phrase! Mostly they used the words "coolest guy on the planet" all over the page. You can't use it too much though, because if you do, you will have too much keyword density. 4-5% is considered a fair density by most Search Engines, ans lately it is getting more about LSI - latent sematic indexing or related phrases than just keywords.

It is better to throw in a Coolest and then a Guy and also a Planet  individually making sure to bold them for emphasis than to put the whole search phrase repeatedly.

They don't see the whole term though, they mainly see "coolest guy planet" and tend to ignore the "on and the" part. To prove this view a cached version of this page in Google. These words like "on" and "the" also ones like "a" are called stop words. They do not count unless you include them in you search phrase and put an inverted comma around the whole phrase.

So, who is the coolest guy on the planet? -  Currently it is Brad Fallon.

He was the winner of the seo game, thereby being the original coolest guy on the planet.

By trying to achieve the title, you are forced to utilize all the best SEO tips and knowledge. Many people have pages trying to be ranked first. I have been ranked as high as third in Google.. Not quite There however close!

Many people have tried but given up because ranking well in the search engine requires continual effort and knowledge.

Currently In all the major Search engines I rank on the first page, and in some I have two entries on the first page. This was within 6 months to achieve steady ranks.

Recenty the search engines have changed the way they measure things. Google for example is more careful about anchor text backlinks due to pressure to water down the effects of "googlebombing". Also they are less keen to rank "over optimized" pages. If you want to rank well in the Google Search results you need pure original content, and also it has to be extremely relevant to the search phrase.

I thought being one of the cooler guys on this planetary system would be an interesting project to try and see how close you can get (starting without SEO guru status) to being the coldest blokes on earth.

I didn't realize how hard it would be to become so cool. It would seem backlinks are one of the strongest criteria of seo (search engine optimization) to getting into the top 5 positions.

I have tried all sorts of things in my quest to be the coolest guy on the planet like using H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6 Tags for the term Coolest guy on the planet. That looks like this:

here is the coolest guy on the planet H1 tag

and then the coolest guy on the planet H2 tag

followed by coolest guy on the planet H3 Tag

coolest guy on the planet H4 tag comes next

coolest guy on the planet H5 tag is then added
coolest guy on the planet H6 tag looks really small!

and I have also put pictures on the page calling them "Coolest guy on the planet", with alt text also (when you hover on the picture) like this:

coolest guy planet picture to demonstrate SEO

next I made sure I linked to the top listings for the term Coolest Guy On The Planet so that Google associates me with them, and they are:

Brad cool Fallon (who links to me from his blog where I made comments)

Garrett planet Boon  (the bridge dude)

The Coolest Guy On The Planet Russell Brunson  (He has a link to me from his blog as well)

I then worked on getting some other sites linking to my website, making sure the anchor text said: coolest guy on the planet, or coolest guy planet.  Now I will work more on coolest guy planet after I did an IBP check on this page. After I did that this page jumped from 11th to 6th in Google. The reason IBP is so effective is it compares your page to the top ranked pages and makes a comparison. Very simple idea with powerful results.

Big jump hey?

Guess what. Google made some changes and now I have to fix the page again. In particular I have removed some of the keywords from Alt text images and also from the links.

Then I made sure I kept Blogging on my coolest Blog.  By trying different techniques and then  watching where your page lands you can understand the effect of small changes.

The blog I created to track the coolest guy on the planet campaign is all about my experiences as I set out to become the coolest guy on the planet. It is located here:
